Help keep mobility parking available
Everyone can play a part in making sure these spaces are there for the people who need them.
Get involved
With your help, mobility parks can be there when they’re needed.
You never need to confront anyone. If mobility parking near you is regularly misused, here are three practical things you can do.
Suggest a location
Tell us where misuse keeps happening. We look at every suggestion and, where the site is a good fit, approach the premises.
Talk to a local business
Let your supermarket, medical centre, gym or school know Canary exists. It’s free for the businesses we partner with.
Share what Canary does
Tell friends, whānau and community groups. The more people understand why mobility parks matter, the less they get misused.
Suggest a location
Know a place where it keeps happening?
If the mobility parks at a supermarket, medical centre, school or shopping centre near you are regularly misused, tell us about it. All we need is the place and what you’ve noticed there.
Not every location can be taken on, so it helps to tell us why this one matters. The three things below make the strongest case.
Someone you know has trouble parking there
A friend, neighbour or someone in your whānau with a permit often arrives to find the mobility parks taken, or has stopped going because of it.
You’ve seen it happen more than once
One car on one day could be anything. The same parks being misused week after week is the pattern we look for.
It’s somewhere people need to get to
Supermarkets, pharmacies, medical centres and schools are hard to go without, so a mobility park that’s taken matters more there.

What we hear from the community
By spearheading a new innovative approach, Canary is tackling this problem head-on. I believe that best part about this initiative, is no-one is personally confronted, it’s done remotely. You’re leading the way Canary.
Despite me getting a little huffy about the breach, your response was excellent, and much appreciated. I totally agree that people without permits should not use the parks, and that unfortunately it requires monitoring. The cameras are a great idea. Way less people abuse those parks now.
Thank you Canary. It is good to know you are diligent about trying to keep these parking spaces free for those who need them.
Questions from the community
Before you get in touch
What happens after I suggest a location?
We look at every suggestion. Where the site is a good fit, we approach the business that runs it and talk to them about Canary.
Will every suggested location get Canary?
No. We choose sites on the impact we expect to have, evidence that the mobility parks are being misused, and how many permit holders live nearby. The business also has to want us there.
Do I need to confront anyone or collect evidence?
No, and please don’t confront anyone. All we need is the place and what you’ve noticed there.
Does it cost the business anything?
No. Canary is free for the businesses we partner with, which is worth mentioning if you talk to one.
Does Canary cover mobility parks on the street?
Canary works on private premises such as supermarkets, shopping centres and medical centres. Mobility parks on public streets are looked after by the local council.
