Meet the organisations Canary supports, and what that support has made possible.

Helping support better accessibility at Hato Hone St John

Canary’s funding helped Hato Hone St John renew its Accessibility Tick, which in turn strengthened its connection with the New Zealand Disability Employers Network.

That work gives Hato Hone St John access to guidance and recommendations that help it track progress as an inclusive employer, and better support people with access needs across its workforce and wider community.

“Canary’s donations have made it possible for us to renew our Accessibility Tick this year.”

Supporting better care for our tamariki

Canary is a proud partner of the Starship Foundation, thanks to our relationship with PAK’nSAVE Manukau.

We’re looking forward to helping make a real difference to the clinical care, patient experience and paediatric medical research the Starship Foundation funds, so every child receives world-class care, close to home.

CCS Disability Action

Working toward the same goal

CCS Disability Action has spent decades supporting disabled people and advocating for better mobility parking across New Zealand. It also administers the national Mobility Parking Permit Scheme.

Its support for Canary is grounded in the same practical issue Canary was created to tackle: mobility parks being used by people who don’t have a valid permit.

At one early Canary site, the average misuse rate fell from around 70% to around 20% within three months. CCS Disability Action described that result as a meaningful improvement for permit holders who rely on those parks being available.

Supporting local programmes in Ruapehu

Canary’s contribution to Grubby Hands Charitable Trust is helping fund inclusive programmes in the Ruapehu District.

That support goes into locally designed initiatives spanning physical and mental wellbeing, food security and environmental work, with a focus on Raetihi and surrounding communities.

Helping people get out, connect and enjoy the community

Canary’s funding has helped Western Community Centre run affordable bus trips for its 50+ group, with outings to places including Raglan, Tauranga and Auckland.

The support also contributed to Treats in the Park, the centre’s Halloween community event. Nearly 2,000 children registered for treats, with thousands more attending on the day.

Putting every paid breachto good use

Part of every breach fee Canary collects goes to organisations working in disability, health and the community. Each new site adds to what we can give. If your organisation does that kind of mahi, we’d like to hear from you.
